5 hidden gems on Gotland – perfect for photo art

Beyond the tourist trails: Gotland's secret views

Visby city wall and the rauk area in Digerhuvud are certainly fantastic, but Gotland has so much more to offer to those who dare to leave the main roads. As a photographer, I often look for places where man and nature have created something unique together.

Here are five of my favorite places to photograph from above:

1. Smöjen: An old industrial area with water-filled limestone quarries. The contrast between the rusty machines, the white concrete, and the bright blue water creates an almost surreal image.

2. Gnisvärd fishing village: From above, the small fishing huts look like a string of pearls along the coast. It's a picture of old Gotland, but in a modern perspective.

3. Faludden: On the southeastern corner of the island, there's a landscape that resembles a savannah more than Sweden. The light here is often exceptionally clear.

4. Bungenäs: A car-free peninsula where architecture meets rugged nature. Here, I often capture the straight lines of the old military facility against the soft shoreline.

5. Skenholmen: A small island off the coast where birdlife and shallow waters create fantastic patterns in green and brown.

Having a piece of art from one of these places is like having a conversation starter on your wall. It's for you who love Gotland deeply and want something that not everyone else has.
